LEAVING DA FOREVER

Wed Aug 25, 2004, 7:48 AM
This will be the last time I visit my page here at dA.

When I originally came to dA as ~darkimportgrey things were much different, and frankly better. Now, millions of deviations clutter the server, most of them in my opinion being useless. Crappy stock photography and drawings that a 6 year old could do just pollute the environment.

Attention-starved depressed teenagers scramble for pageviews and comments and favorites.

Why are YOU on deviantART?

I came here for constructive criticism of my work and found only a rat race to get something in the daily favorites.

dA has grown too big for its own good.

Call me an elitist if you will, I don't care.

I have a lot of respect for the staff here at dA for doing their best to make this site better visually and mechanically, and they are doing a great job, this is one of the best built websites in the world, but unfortunately all the HTML code in the world can't make up for the users themselves.

What sparked my departure from dA to begin with was the discovery that someone at my University had copied a piece of my prose and attempted to turn it in.

To all of the friends that I have made here on dA, I wish good luck in everything you do, and I urge you to make every moment of your lives be a good one. I love you all, and you have all impacted me more than you will ever know.

Love and Respect,

Cameron Collins

About your last post...
First of all who are you to judge wether art is anygood
"millions of deviations clutter the server, most of them in my opinion being useless. Crappy stock photography and drawings that a 6 year old could do just pollute the environment''.
For instance take Picaso, not everyones favourite artist but in no manner lacking talent at all and while he was alive his works were labelled as works of a madman involving no talent whatsoever and is now unarguably one of the worlds most popular and most frequently studied artists.
How you see art is only YOUR interpretation and wether you like a style or not is no reason to shun it.
Now my opinion of you...
you lack insight if you werent so damn superficial and narrowminded you would have realised by now that not all art is based on your standards dont get me wrong I think your work is allright but your not the most talented of people here so isn't it a bit of a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
Its amazing how far a bit of encouragement goes instead of insults.
Im on D.A so I can get feedback on my work and offer others advice if they ask for techniques or help, not to be told you have to reach a certain "standard" to be acceptable on this site
Without both extreme ends of thwe scale how can we have comparison....You lost the artist spirit the passion and traded it for corparate standards and monarchy.
i hope you find it soon
:icondissonantspiral:
How can you even judge my work when I have NONE on dA?

Picaso was a classically trained painter before he ever went into abstraction, why don't you read up on your art history?

And who are YOU to call ME narrow minded or superficial? You have NO idea who I am, and NO idea what I have been through in my life.

In your message you said that how you see art is only your interpretation, and whether you like a style or not is no reason to shun it. I never said I didn't like a certain style or not. I said I do not like people with NO FUCKING ARTISTIC ABILITY OR SENSE OF DESIGN who THINK they are artists. Websites like this don't help them any either. No one knows how to truly comment on a piece of art. The average comment is "nice work +fav". How is that supposed to help the developing artist?
